2023 Wilderness Preserve Trilogy

In 2023, the Northeast Wilderness Trust (NEWT) asked the Reel Quest crew to produce a series of short nature videos, and accompanying still photos, of two of their newest wilderness preserves and one proposed preserve. These projects are as close to pure nature photography as we get in our work and they involve a lot of map reading, and exploring on foot, by car, and in some cases via canoe. The above video combines the three shorts into one continuous video.

In May, Jerry shot the Great Oaks Wilderness Preserve in Parsonsfield, Maine and the Bear’s Nest Wilderness Preserve in Richford, Vermont near the Canadian border. In the above photo you will see the haze of Canadian wildfire smoke, which we encountered during most of the summer of 2023 while filming throughout the northeastern U.S. In October, Ryan made the trek up to LaGrange, Maine, to film the proposed Birch Stream Wilderness Preserve, a beautiful, but challenging to access complex of bogs, streams, forest, and ponds. NEWT is still raising money to make the Birch Stream Wilderness Preserve a reality, so if you like what you see in the video and want to contribute to the cause, head on over to the project’s web page: https://newildernesstrust.org/projects/birch-stream/
