For half a decade we’ve been creating content for the Northeast Wilderness Trust (NEWT) as they expand their network of “forever wild” preserves across the northeastern United States. In March and May of 2025, Reel Quest founder Jerry Monkman spend several days on a new proposed wilderness preserve in Orford, New Hampshire that NEWT plans to call the Spruce Ridge Wilderness Preserve. The property’s 2000+ acres in Orford, New Hampshire includes amazing riparian habitat in the valleys between several mountains in the area, including the open ledges of Mount Cube on the Appalachian Trail (AT). Adjacent to protected AT lands and properties conserved by the Upper Valley Land Trust, the Spruce Ridge preserve will protect and connect valuable wildlife habitat as well as preserve important views from the AT corridor.

Jerry also produced a collection of still photos for the project. You can see a sample of those over on his EcoPhotography blog.
